It would have been nice if Americans would have sung that song when my brother came back home from Vietnam. He got spit on instead. He came home broken. It's great they showed this soldier respect but I wish they showed the Vietnam vets the same respect.

I have come across this fantastic tribute whilst researching my Grandfather's time in the BEF in 1940, his capture at St Valery and subsequent, imprisonment at the hands of the Germans. including the 2 awful marches to and from the camps. I am one of the lucky ones who got to know my Grandfather, he was a Gunner/driver in the 101 Light AT/AA Reg 44 Battery, and although from Hampshire, England, he was proud to say he was with the Highland 51st. It was good to see his regiment noted in the order of battle, and to hear L/cpl Low mention Britain & Britons as there were so many other Welsh & English young men who were part of this torrid time, who are / were no doubt to be equally proud to say they were part of it. My Grandfather, gunner Francis John Best, went to war as a 20 year old happy go lucky fella, with a new wife and baby son, and came back almost 5 years later a very different man. Lest we forget all these brave souls.

I am a former Serviceman and recently tried to use the free swimming programmes in my local area (Conway) Only to find that free swimming is free for Veterans under the age of 60. I feel even more isolated than ever. Thoughts!

Arbroath is my Spiritual home after serving with 45 RM Cmdo. I left the Corp in 1980 and missed the Falklands. I was teary eyed as I watched 'the Boys' sail 'down South'.

The poppy appeal raises huge amounts of money. Where does it go? Loads of ex military people are homeless and/or struggling with mental health issues, so there's plenty of need. I'm sceptical about huge charities and their vast fortunes.

A perfectly-pitched, thorough, and highly-informed discussion about the stories and issues surrounding the 51st HD in France in June 1940. I am interested because, at that time, my father was a farmer in Nairnshire, and, had he not been in a protected profession, would almost certainly have been in the 51st. Thanks to all concerned with this video.
